Veterinarian in China Dies of Monkey B Virus

Infection virus Monkey B (BV) in humans was first reported in China. A veterinarian became the victim, he died after complaining of nausea and vomiting.

“The 53-year-old doctor initially complained of early symptoms of nausea and vomiting, a month after he dissected two dead monkeys in early March,” the China CDC Weekly English Platform of Chinese said on Saturday, quoted by the Global Times.

The vet died on May 27 after seeking treatment at several hospitals. To determine the cause of death, scientists collected cerebrospinal fluid which was eventually identified as positive BV.

Luckily, the vet’s close contacts were all negative in the examination.
