Susanne Mertens learns that Christoph, her and Dr. Tom Berkhoff had not followed to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains out of jealousy, but only to tell her about his suspension as chief physician. The parents of his patient Benny have decided to have the boy relocated and to withdraw Christoph’s treatment. Christoph and his father Matthias are feverishly looking for the causes of Benny’s persistent coma. When the old factory was being converted, Charlotte and Georg Baumgart were forced to lend a hand themselves. Since financial resources are tight, they have to take out a mortgage on their home. At first it seems like they overestimated their manual skills, but then when the whole family approaches, the gallery project seems to be making headway. In the zoo, Susanne diagnoses severe depression in a cow elephant. Director Fährmann wants the animal to be temporarily separated from the herd and subjected to occupational therapy. Curator Dr. Berkhoff, however, decides that it stays in the group. A little later, the female elephant is attacked and injured by a conspecific. Dr. Ferryman gives Dr. Berkhoff’s fault. He wants to bring the case to the board of directors and disciplinary action against his curator.
