Electronic Arts pleasantly surprised all fans of survival horror on Thursday when it announced in its presentation EA Play Live that a remake of the first part of the Dead Space series is being made. The Visceral Games studio is no longer working on it (as the well-known analyst Daniel Ahmad aptly remarked in his Twitter, their offices are a bit “Dead Space”), but EA assigned the work to the Motive studio, which was founded in 2015 by Jade Raymond. She left in 2018 and the studio is now run by Patrick Klaus. So far, Motive has only one game on their account – Star Wars: Squadrons, which was released last year and garnered relatively mixed responses. However, work began on the Dead Space remake before the release of this game and the magazine VGC he looked at who was actually working on it.
Even if the fans would like it, Glen Schofield is not one of the names for the obvious reasons, because he runs the studio Striking Distance, in which the survival horror film The Callisto Protocol is created. However, this certainly does not mean that no authors of the original games are working on the remake of Dead Space. For example, UX director of the first part, Dino Ignacio, confirmed on his Twitter that he was working on a remake. Through article on the official Motive website, we learned that Mike Yazijian, art director of Dead Space 2, but also Star Wars: Squadrons and Batman Arkham Origins are working on the remake.
In addition to veterans from the Visceral Games, there are also other interesting names, especially the creative director Roman Campos-Oriala himself, who came to Motive from the Montreal branch of Ubisoft. He spent several years there as a lead designer on Red Steel 1 and 2, as well as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier from 2012. Probably the most famous project he worked on is For Honor, where, as currently in the remake Dead Space, worked as a creative director. Among the developers is also one veteran from BioWare, namely lead designer Gary Stewart, who has participated in the Mass Effect series in the past.
Back in January, I was invited to help guide the developers remaking a game I worked on 13 years ago. It’s been such a privilege to consult and advise the EA Motive team on a franchise I hold near and dear to my heart. Congrats to the whole team! https://t.co/Fdlmzt6aij

Finally, there is another name, former Assassin’s Creed Valhalla game director Eric Baptizat, who transferred to Motive from Ubisoft this year. But we don’t know if he’s involved in the Dead Space remake. After all, the studio has previously stated that it is working on several projects at the same time.
Dead Space is targeting the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. We don’t know the release date yet.
