Veterans and Red Cross distance themselves from protest on Museumplein

The Veterans Platform distances itself from the actions of alleged veterans in the protest against the corona measures on Museumplein this afternoon. The Red Cross also distances itself and calls on others not to use the logo of the organization.

According to the interest group of all Dutch veterans, a private Facebook page has called for veterans to form a buffer between protesters and the police during the protest on Museumplein.

“By doing this as a (alleged) veteran, it is implied that they are doing this on behalf of all veterans,” the association said. “The Veterans Platform distances itself completely from this action and stands shoulder to shoulder with the police against any form of illegal action.”

The beret

In the square this afternoon, protesters wearing berets were diametrically opposed to the police. Some also wore army pants or jackets. It is not clear whether it actually concerned veterans. Other protesters wore white coats, some with the Red Cross logo on their clothing.

The Red Cross reports that the symbol of the organization may not be used just like that. “It is a protected emblem. This is even in the law,” said the organization. “The red cross, the red crescent moon and the red crystal are recognized worldwide. So when you see these symbols around the world you know that you are dealing with an impartial counselor.”
