– We currently have no information on the crews, Leah Block, a spokeswoman for the Commemorative Air Force organization, which organizes the show, told the TV company ABC.
The crash occurred at 1:30 pm local time at Dallas Executive Airport during a World War II military aircraft display.
It was a Boeing B-17 “Flying Fortress” type bomber which collided with a smaller Bell P-63 Kingcobra type fighter.
Videos posted on social media show the fighter jet flying into the bomber obliquely from behind and the collision causing both planes to crash to the ground within seconds.
According to organizers, the bomber had a crew of five while only one person was on board the fighter. There were no paying passengers on board.
The “Wings Over Dallas” air show bills itself as America’s premier air show with a World War II theme. It coincides with Veteran’s Day, the US holiday for military veterans which falls on November 11, the day the fighting of the First World War ended.
