Anita Bormane, “Culture Marks”, JSC “Latvijas Mediji”
The piano virtuoso – pianist and composer Vestards Šimkus – will give a concert in two parts of the Dzintari Concert Hall in the Small Hall on October 30 with a self-composed music program, “Drops of Light”, allowing listeners to look at their musical diary.
“The compositions are united by a light mood and a light mood full of strength and energy and a feeling of happiness. Most of my music is inspired by walks, where I go every day through forests and meadows near my home on the Kurzeme side. The music heard in this concert is like the essence of what I have improvised, after these walks I return to the piano and try to express what I saw in the music, ”says Vestards Šimkus.
He is a winner of several international competitions. He has received international attention in collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Birmingham Symphony and the French National Orchestra, the Northern German Radio Symphony Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, etc. Konserthuset, Rudolfinum in Prague, Palau de Musica in Barcelona, Oriental Art Center in Shanghai and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Notable conductor Pavo Jervi has described the pianist as a phenomenal artist. Vestards Šimkus has received the Polish “Golden Order”, is also a knight of the Estonian “White Star” Order, as well as the winner of the Grand Music Prize (2002, 2009) and the Latvian Music Record of the Year Award (2010). He is also the author of piano concerts, film music, chamber music and piano music.
