Vestager: ‘Apple would rather pay fines than change its policy’ – IT Pro – News

Funny argument. You treat the point of view as rationalized from a gut feeling, and then you sit right in the middle of it.

How many entrepreneurs do you know who flout the rules? Pretty little I guess? Fortunately, the stories we hear from entrepreneurs who do this are quite limited. Otherwise it wouldn’t be newsworthy. So it won’t be too bad with the idle; then we will only lose people who doubt whether they are within the law and who would rather leave sooner than later anyway.

So we can say that a lot of entrepreneurs wouldn’t take such a risk anyway. And that it is therefore quite reasonable to personally punish people who break the rules. Because those who do that now can hide behind a BV or an NV. I don’t call that smart, I call that cowardly.

On your point about big companies, this isn’t about small things like the choice of cleaning agent in one of the offices. These are decisions that have an impact on the entire business. Do you think Tim Cook doesn’t know the terms set by the App Store? Do you think Mark Zuckerberg knows nothing about internal investigations into the effect of social media on children, or on democracy? Do you think Jeff Bezos knows nothing about the working conditions of his employees?

These are examples of matters that lie within the responsibility of a CEO: to know this and to manage it. The fact that it has been raised by the Eurocommissioner of Medinging (in this case) does not mean that a CEO / MT / Executive Board has to send it on? We are not talking about a message in a school newspaper. If they choose not to do this, why should they not be held accountable for it?

In addition, doing business always involves a risk. They “get paid for that”. With such incomes they are really not pathetic.
