Very young new doctor from Lerici awarded by the Municipality, she will soon leave as a volunteer for Tanzania

At just 17 years old she was already attending the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Genoa and this year she graduated quickly, the youngest in Italy to reach the finish line in 2024: she is Serena Falcone Canci and in recent days the Municipality of Lerici wanted to award her a special prize. “I was first grade, then I graduated in Canada where high school lasts four years,” explains the young doctor, who started – a past not so distant – from primary and middle school in Lerici. “I recommend everyone to try the experience of a year abroad, it is very formative especially from a personal and character point of view. It allows you to acquire an open-mindedness and a level of English that are certainly valuable for the future,” observes Serena. Who will soon, next November, begin specializing in Cardiology at the San Martino hospital in Genoa. But it’s not the only commitment on the agenda: “In a few days I will leave on a humanitarian mission to Tanzania as a volunteer doctor,” he says. In recent days, Palazzo Civico presented the young doctor with a plaque in the council chamber in recognition of her achievements. “Stories like Serena’s can be an example for those who want to achieve results, but even without doing extraordinary things, each of us can certainly put our training and knowledge at the service of our community”, commented the mayor Leonardo Paoletti .
