The English writer Sophie Kinsella, beloved author of my favorite series who loves shopping, is among the guests of Silvia Toffanin at Verissimo, Saturday 16 November. She was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer in 2022, and her struggle with the disease was the focus of the interview. Today Kinsella has taken her life back and told her story in a novel, “What it’s like”. “It’s been a roller coaster. I have lived an amazing life, I have written books that are loved, I have five children and a man that I love. Everything seemed perfect. One day I woke up in a hospital bed with my head covered and I didn’t understand what happened. I had undergone major surgery and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. My life turned upside down and that’s what I wrote in the book,” said the British author who explained her problem. “It was my legs that gave out first: I went around the house holding grab the furniture.”
Then find the disease. “They told me about the tumor several times because my memory wasn’t working and I forgot about it. Every time I had a crazy panic. I rejected the idea, it couldn’t be true. For a long time, after the operation, I thought I would never write again because I couldn’t hold a pen and think straight”, says the writer.
Her husband was always by her side: “He was a real star. He slept on the floor in the hospital, he was with me during doctors’ appointments. When I forgot that I had a tumor, because it happened, he told me from the beginning. It was very difficult for him.” Medicine, surgery. Then the light at the end of the tunnel: “I had to learn to walk again, turn my head, think. My brain wasn’t working like it used to. One of the tests I had to pass, like a good Englishman, was to make a cup of tea,” he said. “I can go days without ever thinking” about the tumor, “I have a life full of joy and fun with my family. Cancer couldn’t control my life,” Kinsella said in the an interview.
