Very strict abortion law in US state of Texas is back in force, two days after a judge passed the law had suspended. Texas had appealed that decision and has now been ruled in favor of the court. It determined that the law will remain in effect as long as the federal government’s lawsuit against Texas is still pending.
The controversial abortion law came into effect on September 1. Abortions in Texas have since been banned if a fetal heartbeat is detectable. That’s usually around week six, a time when some women don’t even know they’re pregnant.
President Biden’s administration filed a lawsuit against the state after its implementation. Attorney General Garland said the law prevents women from exercising their constitutional right to choose to have an abortion.
