The Norwegian started on four strokes over par and with −1 on the round, he delivered one of the best rounds on the tough Augusta course.

He is thus ahead of the legend Tiger Woods, who had a painful third round. The golf icon went six strokes over par and is now seven strokes over par in total on the Augusta course. Woods is down in 41st place ahead of the last day.

Woods entered the tournament in search of his 16th major title, but must look far for victory in the injury comeback. He won his last Major tournament at Augusta in 2019.

– I would say my round was very steady and I played very well. Maybe a little too many bogeys. I missed a little too many places where one should not miss. I think I got some good putts too, and I felt I was very good from the tee today at least, says Hovland to Discovery.

– The three holes seven, nine and fifteen I would like to have back, says Hovland.

He climbed from 45th to a shared 18th place, but is a full 12 strokes behind the leader Scottie Scheffler, who has a lead of three strokes. But there are still good opportunities to get a very strong position for Hovland. There are only two strokes up to the “top 10”.

– I was able to shrink the distance upwards, and I will take this experience with me, says the 24-year-old.
