Traffic on the Dutch motorways had to deal with a very busy morning rush hour on Thursday. According to Rijkswaterstaat and the ANWB, this was caused by rain showers across the country. In the north of the country, the yellow code was due to local slipperiness.
Rijkswaterstaat speaks of a very heavy rush hour if there are more than 500 kilometers of traffic jams on national roads. The ANWB reported a total of more than 800 kilometers of traffic jams at the peak time (around 8.30am).
Accidents have occurred in many places on the highways. This has caused significant delays on the A1, A2, A4, A9, A12, A16, A58 and A67 amongst others. After 9:00, traffic jams and delays decreased.
During the morning the showers will move across the country, with possible hail and wet snow. Rijkswaterstaat says sprinkle where necessary and advises road users to adjust their driving style if necessary.
There is also a busy rush hour in the evening. It can rain especially in the southern half of the country. Peak evening rush hour is expected to be around 5.30pm.
