Why are the numbers on Covid-19 disease wrong?

Jean-Loup Izambert: The figures released by the President of the Republic, the government, the Ministry of Health and certain administrations on the Covid-19 disease do not correspond at all to the reality of the disease. They are greatly overestimated. At the end of October 2020 Emmanuel Macron declared that “if we do nothing, the coronavirus could cause up to 400,000 additional deaths in France”. This estimate was provided to him by the Scientific Council headed by a retired virologist which, as we explain, has already cost the country dearly. These eccentric remarks unworthy of a President of the Republic have no other objective than to maintain the virus of fear to prevent any challenge to the policy of power through liberticidal measures. The secrecy is such that the journalists of LCI who wanted to know where this estimate came from were turned away by the National Consultative Ethics Committee. This body, which acts as a relay for the Scientific Council, replied that these are “working documents addressed to stakeholders and health authorities” and which “are not intended to be made public. It is serious to see scientists play this game to promote the private interests of large pharmaceutical companies whose vaccine is not developed and dangerous. But why not make these “working documents” public if they are not questionable? …

What evidence allows you to say that these figures are not correct?

J-L.I. : Several analyzes and studies. Among them, those very documented of General Dominique Delawarde, former Head of the “Situation-Intelligence-Electronic Warfare” office at the Joint Operational Planning Staff, of Doctor Peter El Baze, creator of the medical software Megabaze and Oncobaze (chemotherapy) who is familiar with the issue of collecting health data, or even the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) and virologists.

Public opinion has been misinformed, but the main political and general news media disseminate these figures?

Claude Janvier: These media regularly receive from the presidency, the government and especially central and regional administrations press releases, graphics which they distribute without checking their accuracy. This information comes from institutional information sources which are considered a priori to be reliable by many journalists. Unfortunately, as we demonstrate, this information is false. Journalists often work under pressure because of the mass of information they have to process and, often, the limited resources available to some editorial staff deprive them of budget and time for verification and investigation. As professional journalists we trust the analysis of scientists and statisticians at INSEE more than the generalist statements of bureaucrats from ministries and organizations more concerned with taking precedence over official discourse than working with the reality of the facts. This is one of the differences between journalism and communication.
