Vertigo Games Announces Metro Awakening VR Game – Metro Franchise Prequel Set in Post-Apocalyptic Moscow

Dutch developer Vertigo Games has announced the VR game Metro Awakening. It is a story-driven prequel to the Metro franchise. The game will be available for the PS VR2, Meta Quest 2 and 3, and SteamVR.

Metro Awakening is set in 2028, prior to the events of Metro 2033. Players control Serdar, a doctor who searches for his wife in the subway tunnels of post-apocalyptic Moscow. The story was written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, who also wrote the novel that started the franchise and later collaborated on the games. The game is a first-person shooter with stealth and survival elements.

Metro Awakening should be available sometime this year for PS VR2, Meta Quest 2 and 3, and on PC headsets via Steam. Although the game is not made by the studio responsible for the regular Metro games, 4A Games, the game was created ‘in collaboration’ with the publisher of those games, Deep Silver.

Vertigo Games is a Dutch development studio that specializes in VR games. In the past, this company has made zombie game Arizona Sunshine, among other things. The sequel to that game was released last December.
