Vertical Montaña Blanca: A Thrilling Trail Run Experience in Lanzarote with Four Modalities

Once again, the Vertical Montaña Blanca does not disappoint runners and fans in any of its four characteristic modalities: Fanega (26km), Almud (11km), Cuartillo (6km) and Hiking (6km).

The test took place last Sunday, June 4, bringing together 300 participants among the four routes, the limit number of registered and which confirms the great reception of this event.

Said circuits once again had a luxury prelude, the night vertical, a time trial that was held on Friday, June 2.

Thus, two days of the best trail were experienced, with which a great atmosphere was once again left among the runners as well as the fans and spectators who came to the Montaña Blanca square to enjoy one of the most original competitions on the island.

The town of Montaña Blanca experienced a special atmosphere from that same Friday, since one of the novelties of this eleventh edition was carried out with the participation of the smallest of the house.

The organization organized a Vertical Chinijos that began at 7:30 p.m., within the bib collection period, which allowed many boys and girls to register with only half an hour in advance to leave one of the most fun races.

An hour and a half later, the starting gun was heard for all those participants who dared to travel the 2km ascent to the White Mountain and who returned to leave what is being one of the images of the test, with that picturesque route being discovered in the middle of the night and from a distance thanks to the lanterns of the corridors.

Among them was Tinguaro Quintero, winner of this Montaña Blanca Night Vertical, stopping the clock at 13:07. He was accompanied on the podium by Saúl Rodríguez (14:30) and Héctor David Tavío (14:44).

As usual in a test with the characteristics of the Vertical White Mountain, the participants of the night session on Friday only had to enjoy the warm reception in the town square to start from there to rest and recharge their batteries, since many of those runners did not want to miss the queen day on Sunday either.

On the day of Sunday, June 4, the participants of the Fanega category took the first place. A very hard modality with spectacular landscapes: ascent to the Degollada de Montaña Blanca, the descent to La Candelaria in Tías, Barranco Negro, the Montañeta de Güime, Caldera Honda, Caldera Llana, Montaña Guatisea, the Lomo de Tesa, to elevate the ascent and descent of the White Mountain as the final stage.

In the female category, the victory went to Ildiko Csilla Biro (03:15:49) and the first male runner to reach the finish line was Tanausú Cabrera (02:14:29).

The also demanding circuit of the 11km of the Almud category, loaded with ups and downs at high speed, was one of the most acclaimed. Starting the competition at 10:00 a.m., crossing the finish line as winners Javier López (01:04:44) and Nuria Muñoz (01:19:53), first classified in the male and female category respectively.

The Cuartillo category shared the distance of 6km and the route with the Hiking modality, the latter without competition at stake but it was the most populous group with 160 participants. Cuartillo’s extremely fast runners left the mark of many overtaking events that were acclaimed by the large audience present from the Montaña Blanca square.

A test that was characterized by speed, in which it started very strong and with great intensity. Tinguaro Quintero (22:57) climbed back to the top of the podium and in women the victory went to Ivanka López (38:45)

With the classification closed, only the delivery of trophies to their respective winners remained.

As it could not be otherwise, the act of recognition of the winners was also loaded with meaning, characterized by some original handcrafted trophies and products from the land.

The councilors of the batatera corporation Raúl de León, Marlene Romero and Mamadou Yero were present at the event, as well as the creator and alma mater of this test Ignacio Romero.
