The preliminary phases of the Copa Libertadores are already established after the draw held on Monday at Conmebol. After the definition of these three instances, the group stage will be drawn.
For this phase, the leaders of each series are already known, who will occupy Pot 1 of the draw, since they are defined according to the location of each one in the ranking published by Conmebol on December 16 last.
Unlike the 2021 season, where Paraguay had two heads of the group (Olimpia and Cerro Porteño), in 2022 it will have none.
Cerro Porteño was to occupy Pot 1, but Athletico Paranaense “took” the place, earning a ticket to the group stage after winning the Copa Sudamericana.
In the Conmebol regulations it is written that the champion of the South American will be the leader of the “2nd line” of clubs, that is, they will occupy pot 2. But the caveat is also made that if the winner of the South American is ranked by Should be seeded, this location will be prioritized.
In this way, the leaders of the group in Libertadores 2022 will be: Palmeiras, River Plate, Boca Juniors, Flamengo, Nacional, Peñarol, Atlético Mineiro and Atlético Paranaense. There will be four Brazilians, two Argentines and two Uruguayans.
Cerro Porteño will be in Pot 2, along with Libertad, Independiente del Valle, Universidad Católica, Emelec, Corinthians and Colo Colo, so these are the rivals he will avoid in the group stage.
