Given the lack of liquidity caused by the freezing of the assets of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea asked the British government on Monday to authorize the sale of tickets.

“We ask the government to allow our fans access to tickets,” the London club said in a statement.

“There have been meetings on a daily basis to find a solution. Also the Premier League and the FA (the English Football Federation) are also discussing with the government the issues of sporting integrity caused (by this situation) if fans are not allowed to attend. to the meetings”, adds the club in the text.

As a result of sanctions imposed on Abramovich for his proximity to Vladimir Putin’s regime, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Chelsea are unable to sell tickets to non-season ticket holders, rival fans visiting Stamford Bridge, or ‘Blues’ fans who want to see their team play abroad.

The government placed the club on a special license following a battery of sanctions taken against the Russian oligarch last season, which prevents Chelsea, and by extension Abramovich, from generating new revenue.

The license has already been modified to the one initially implemented, with an increase in the spending limit for match days that has gone from 500,000 pounds (597,000 euros, 655,000 dollars) to 900,000 pounds (1.075 million euros, 1.178 million dollars ).

On Sunday, after the victory against Newcastle (1-0), Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel joked that he was willing to “drive a minibus” to transport his players if necessary.

On the other hand, the British Prime Minister’s spokesman considered “completely out of place” the fact that Chelsea fans chant Abramovich’s name during games.

“We are fully aware of the strength of sentiment surrounding a popular club, but that is no excuse for an attitude that is completely inappropriate at the current time,” said a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

“I think people can express their passion and their support without resorting to that kind of thing,” he added.

The reigning European champion travels to Lille on Wednesday to play the second leg of the round of 16 with the 2-0 lead achieved in London against the French team.

Olimpia won the first superclásico of the year, putting a stop to the great start of Cerro Porteño, which came from five consecutive victories in its first five Apertura games.

This victory repeats a story that had occurred 12 years ago, in the 2010 Apertura tournament, where the “Ciclón” arrived in an identical way: with 5 wins at the start and with the idea of continuing to sweep by knocking down its traditional rival.

But in an intense match with many goals, the Franjeado ended up celebrating 3-2, with goals from Christian Ledesma, Carlos Bonet and Rafael “Makanaki” Dos Santos, thus breaking the streak of the Barça team that at that time was led by Pedro Troglio.

The goals of the Barrio Obrero team were scored by César “Tigre” Ramírez and Pablo Zeballos, but they did not reach and Cerro ended up losing the undefeated against the traditional rival.

This Sunday, Julio César Cáceres’s Olimpia did the same, triumphing in La Nueva Olla for the first time with goals from Alejandro Silva and Derlis González, cutting off Cerro de “Chiqui” Arce’s devastating start.

The Paraguayan Miguel Almirón reappeared as a starter in the Premier League after a long time and had a great task against Chelsea, being one of the most regular of his team.

But in addition to his return to the starting eleven, one of the striking and even “ridiculous” images left by the game in London was the “mockery” of the German defender Antonio Rudiger towards the Paraguayan midfielder.

The Chelsea defender imitated Miguel Almirón’s run, mockingly, raising his legs as much as possible, precisely in a possible duel with the Albirroja midfielder.

The image was quite striking and caused quite a bit of repudiation on social networks, mainly in England, since it was directly to make fun of “Miggy’s” way of running.

Almirón was on the pitch until the 69th minute of the game with a score of 0-0, but Chelsea ended up winning in the 89th minute, with a dying goal from Kai Havertz.
