José María Canale Domínguez (25), central defender belonging to the Club Libertad records, was loaned this semester to Newell’s Old Boys of Argentina. The compatriot footballer is enjoying his first international experience and admits that he is picking up a lot of learning.
“I like to keep quiet, not raise any smoke (laughs) and focus on my own. After coming to Newell’s, it is the first medium with whom I am speaking ”, he clarified.
Born in Itá, he did the Training in Itauguá on October 12, until he arrived at Libertad integrating the sub 20 category, which at that time was directed by Juan Bautista Torales. He made his debut in First Division in 2015 against Sportivo San Lorenzo.
He had his time at Nacional and Sol de América, this year he played the Apertura en Libertad tournament and in the second half of the year he made the leap to Argentine football.
“Newell’s is a very important club, several Paraguayan players passed through here, currently I am the only one. They treat me very well and I am already adapted to the team and the teammates ”, he added.
“Here there is still a big difference with our football, in several aspects, but it also goes through the conviction, Paraguayan footballers must rely more on our own abilities to face any rival,” he said.
“I particularly learned a lot in this short time, in my case, being central observing and marking experienced players such as Maxi Rodríguez and Ignacio Scocco (teammates), you realize the movements they make and that you are capturing and learning the way of marking ”, he said.
José commented on a very interesting detail, regarding the care of the diet and the attention of the club in that regard. “The club provides an eating plan. It is in charge of preparing and distributing, everyone has their own diet or eating plan and the institution provides, it is an investment of the club ”.
At another point, the central explained that many Paraguayans live in the city of Rosario, and some came to greet them, even to invite them, but clarified that it is not a lot of going out to socialize, respecting the sanitary protocol.
Various references
José admits that he has several players from his position as a reference, they are footballers who at one point only saw him playing and then he had them as teammates.
“I have a lot of defenders who marked me and from whom I learned. In Libertad I shared with Adalberto Román, Pedro “Ganso” Benítez, Fabián Balbuena and Antolín Alcaraz among others, I admire all of them because they were my references when I started to play in the first division ”.
“Before being in the main campus (of Libertad) I watched them on TV playing and then you end up sharing with them it was a great step and a lot of learning”, he pondered.
Projection
Regarding his next goals, the compatriot central aims to close the season in the best way and to be able to continue in Argentine football where he admits that it served him a lot for his professional growth.
“At the moment, very involved in the club that is giving me the best, I have a lot to learn, I would like to continue here for a while longer. Argentine football is very competitive, but at the same time demanding ”, he highlighted.
“My contract with Newell’s is until December (2021), with the option to extend it for a further six months. We have a new coach (Adrián Taffarel), who is trying to find the best team and keep fighting in the tournament ”.
By the way, Newell’s, lost on Monday 2 to 1 against Sarmiento as a visitor for day 18 of the second phase, with seven dates remaining to complete the tournament.
The selection
Channel recognizes that playing for the national team is the goal of every player, but he is also aware that he still needs to work hard and well to have the chance to be called up.
“One must do a good job to wait for a call, in my case I have not been having a regularity for long. However, one always has that dream, “he said.
About the new white-haired coach, he said: “I have a colleague Pablo Pérez who had the Barros Schelotto twins as coach in Boca Juniors and he says that they are one of those laburators. Here they practically know the twins and they all say they work very well ”.
Wants his family close
As the player’s departure occurred in the middle of the pandemic, it was difficult to move with the family (wife and children), so he is living alone in Rosario. However, with the reopening of the border, he is managing their transfer.
“I am alone here (Rosario), due to the protocol and the closure of the border, unfortunately my family could not come. Now we are looking at a way for them to come ”, he explained.
“It happens that since the border crossing has just been opened, for now everything is full, but we are looking at how they can get here. I think that soon we will all be together again ”, he concluded.
