Verstappen won the Saudi GP by half a second

Last year’s champion Max Verstappen won this year’s second Formula 1 race, the Saudi GP, by half a second ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

It was a dramatic start to the weekend for the second of the year formula 1 Grand Prix, this time in Saudi Arabia. During Friday’s training, an oil rig was bombed just kilometers from the racetrack in Jeddah. The Houthi rebels in Yemen later took on the act.

During Saturday’s qualifier, it also became dramatic then Mick Schumacher slammed into the concrete and jammed his Haas car, which led to a long break in the qualifiers. Red Bulls sergio perez then took the first pole position of his career before Ferraris Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr.

Sergio Perez also opened the race excellently and had the lead in the Saudi Arabian GP all the way to his depot stop – then Nicholas Latifi crashed which led to a safety car where Perez lost three positions.

Instead, the race was a gasp between Perez’s teammate in Red Bull and last year’s world champion Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who just in Bahrain last week ran over each other several times. Verstappen won the dramatic battle and was half a second ahead into the goal.

“This is already a classic,” says the Formula 1 expert Rickard Rydell in Viasat Motor’s broadcast.
