Traditionally, there was not much activity at the beginning of the training. Only Alonso circled on the track. Gradually, more were added. Hamilton, Bottas and Verstappen did not leave until twenty minutes later. Mercedes put the drivers soft tires on. The riders thus took the lead in front of the Ferrari riders. Verstappen put on soft until the end of training and got to the first place.
Problems were encountered by Räikkönen, who had a defect in his right rear tire and had to return to the pits. After a while, however, he returned to the track. Norris drove through the gravel zone.
Qualification begins in Montmeló at 15:00.
