Max Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday and with it his first world championship. Of course this was done by the Dutchman on Sunday evening well celebrated, but the Red Bull driver didn’t have a lot of time to party either. On Tuesday, the brand new world champion again took place behind the wheel of an F1 car.
Formula 1 will switch from 13-inch tires to 18-inch tires next year. Verstappen took part in a test with these new tires for Red Bull. The Limburger explained more than two Grands Prix distances and had a good day, he says.
“It felt good to be behind the wheel again and it was nice to get a feel for the new tires. Everything went smoothly and there were no big surprises with the tires. That is always positive,” concludes Verstappen.

Verstappen is ready for a holiday
Due to a new technical regulation, the F1 cars of 2022 will look significantly different from the current cars. The Dutchman is therefore happy to gain some information for next year. Although he indicates that he is now on vacation.
“Next year everything will change and the cars will be very different, so it’s good to have the first information about the tires. It was a good day today, at the end of a very long season for which we finally got the ultimate reward Now I’m looking forward to spending some time off the track.”

Albon did preparatory work for Verstappen
Guillaume Rocquelin is Head of Race Engineering at Red Bull and explains exactly what Verstappen tested. “Max drove our prototype car to adapt the large 18-inch tires as closely as possible to the expected regulations in terms of weight and downforce. Everything went according to plan,” said the engineer.
The step from 13-inch to 18-inch tires is a big change for Formula 1. Alex Albon has therefore tested the new tires for the Red Bull team several times during the season. Those tests were important for Verstappen, the Frenchman explains.
“Alex Albon has already done quite a bit of testing with the new tires for us during the season and luckily we were able to get started right away today. The car was well balanced and it was a good day,” Rocquelin concludes.
