The Mercedes team has long been the dominant force in Formula 1. Since 2014, all championships have been strung together and no one has come close to the team of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. With fourteen world titles in their pocket, the team is looking for title numbers fifteen and sixteen this year, although Red Bull is only too happy to put a stop to that.
Just like Max Verstappen, who has been performing at the top of his game for several years now and is seen as the crown prince. Now that success has failed to materialize in recent years, many rumors have started. The Dutchman could make the switch to Mercedes if some clauses in his contract are activated in case of lesser Red Bull performance.
Verstappen doesn’t talk much about his future and always focuses on the here and now. The first battle, in Bahrain, was indeed lost, but when the Dutchman is talking to F1 Insider asked whether Helmut Marko should fear that his star driver will soon be admired in the Mercedes car, he reassures the Austrian.
“If it continues like this, he has nothing to worry about”, the Dutchman beams. “You must not forget that I have been driving for Red Bull for a long time. I know everyone here and I really like them all,” said Verstappen. In any case, it will not be his fault. “I do not doubt myself. I always try to get the most out of it and I often succeed well. If that is enough to win, then it is good. If it is not, then I cannot change it.”
