Dutch world champion Max Verstein starts first in the Japanese Grand Prix, the 18th round of the Formula 1 World Championship, today, after leading yesterday’s official qualifying results.
The Red Bull driver, looking for his second consecutive title, set the best time in Suzuka, with a time of 1: 29.304, ahead of Ferrari Charles Leclerc of Monaco and the Spanish Carlos Sainz.
But the Dutchman could be in trouble after officials indicated they would investigate an accident with British McLaren driver Lando Norris.
Norris was forced off the track on the grass after capturing Verstappen in front of him to avoid him, while the Red Bull driver told his team radio: “This is incredible.”
Verstappen can win the second consecutive title if he wins the race, as well as making the fastest lap regardless of other results, or if he wins against Leclerc in third place or not.
