Verstappen not impressed by the shortened circuit: ‘quite dangerous even’

Formula 1 will be racing for the second consecutive weekend at the Bahrain circuit this weekend, but the drivers will use a short 3.5 kilometers layout this weekend. The circuit only has four braking zones and quite a few straights, so a lap took less than 55 seconds on Friday.

“It can always be better”

Verstappen finished the day in second place behind George Russell, but was not completely satisfied afterwards: “It was quite difficult and in terms of balance we have not yet found the optimal setting, especially for the short runs,” said Verstappen. “The long runs were certainly an improvement and even looked quite good, but it can always be better.”

Dangerous

Verstappen was not exactly enthusiastic about the circuit itself: “The circuit is not the most exciting track to drive on. Because a lap is so short, the radio is constantly open with warnings for traffic behind you. The second sector is also very blind in some corners, so it doesn’t make it easy to cool the tires for a second fast lap. It even makes it quite dangerous. ”

Verstappen finished in second place on Friday, but assumes that Valtteri Bottas’ eleventh place gave a distorted picture: “We never really know for sure where we are on Friday, but Valtteri’s fastest lap was canceled so it seems that we are a few tenths behind Mercedes. We still have some work to do before qualifying, but we will focus on our race pace to make sure we will be as competitive as possible. ”
