Verstappen: ‘My future holds alternative endeavors’

Double world champion Max Verstappen has admitted he could retire from F1 after his current contract with Red Bull expires in 2028.

The Dutch driver had already mentioned on several occasions that he wanted to end his career relatively early, but recently he claimed “think seriously” to stop Formula 1 when his contract expires at the end of 2028: he will then only be 31 years old.

In recent times, only Nico Rosberg has hung up his boots so soon after winning a single world crown.

Considering the prognosis that would see Verstappen win all remaining championships with Red Bull, he could become the first eight-time champion of the prestigious sport.

Only the future will tell and if this enormous challenge proves thrilling for the pilot, his motivation could be dulled to enjoy more family joys (photo above with his companion Kelly Piquet) or participate in other disciplines like endurance.

“If Max has had enough by 2028, he will stopconfirms his mentor Helmut Marko. He is quite the kind of person who can make such a decision. »

“I know that I am very lucky to drive in F1 in such good conditions, entrusts the main interested party. I can win whatever I want, but at some point it just doesn’t matter. I already have a lot of plans for the future. »

“It is also a question of quality of life, adds Max. There are other things in the world than Formula 1. I have a contract until 2028, then I will see. I don’t want to spend my best years just in this sport. With the proliferation of races, it’s much too restrictive. »

Verstappen would still have had a fourteen-year F1 career if he retired at the end of 2028 despite his age, the Dutchman having started in F1 in 2015 aged just 17.
