SHANGHAI (AP) – Max Verstappen starts from pole position in the hunt for his first victory in the Grand Prix of China. The 26-year-old reigning world champion will start at 9 a.m. (Dutch time) from the front row with teammate Sergio Pérez next to him.
Verstappen won the sprint race on Saturday on the circuit in Shanghai by force majeure, the first sprint race of the season. He then took pole in qualifying for the fifth time in a row this season, which was the hundredth pole for the Red Bull team.
In 2017, Verstappen achieved his only podium finish in the Chinese Grand Prix by finishing third. He came fifth in 2018 and fourth in 2019.
The premier class of motorsport is back on the Shanghai circuit for the first time since 2019. The corona pandemic and the strict requirements of the Chinese government prevented the races from 2020 to 2023.calFocus.
