Alexander Albon is always half a second or more short on Max Verstappen. Red bull wants that difference to be reduced to three tenths and the Thai should also perform more stably and react less nervously to unforeseen circumstances. Asked whether Max Verstappen can assist and help his teammate, Verstappen tells Ziggo Sport clearly not.
“No, he just has to accelerate”, he leaves nothing to be desired. “That’s the only thing you can do. You can keep talking about it a lot, but that doesn’t work. Ultimately you just have to accelerate, that’s the only solution.”
If Albon is unable to secure its spot, Red Bull must look for an alternative. Whether Verstappen has a preference? “I can handle all the options well, although with Nico (Hulkenberg, ed.) Of course it becomes a bit more personal, because we can also speak Dutch among ourselves. And Nico has also done very well in the races in which he came in.”
“But in the end it is not up to me to make that choice”, he repeats what he already said in previous interviews. “I leave that to the team.”
