“Verstappen did a great job”

With his Formula 1 victory in Singapore, Lando Norris continues to make up ground on World Championship leader Max Verstappen. But despite his dominance during the race, the McLaren driver made mistakes that were not worthy of a title. He also doesn’t have much time left to catch up.

„Mirror“: “Max Verstappen did damage control in his Formula 1 title defence on a night that belonged to Lando Norris. The McLaren driver started from pole position and dominated the Singapore Grand Prix from start to finish. By the time he saw the chequered flag, he was more than 20 seconds ahead of his title rival, underlining just how big his lead is at the moment.”

„Daily Mail“: “Lando Norris prevailed on an evening when his title dreams demanded it. He won the Singapore Grand Prix in a confident but at times nerve-wracking manner. The Briton dominated the race from pole position and never relinquished the lead in 62 laps despite two touches with the wall. Title rival Max Verstappen finished second for Red Bull. Verstappen’s lead has shrunk from 59 to 52 points with 180 points remaining from six Grands Prix and three sprint races.”

„Independent“: “The Briton (Norris) survived two scrapes on the wall but still led every lap under the lights of the Marina Bay Street Circuit and crossed the finish line 20.9 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Verstappen.”

“Mark”: “The McLaren driver’s victory underlines his championship recovery, but Max’s second place is worth gold because it was one of the worst tracks his car has faced and he still has a two-race points lead.”

„As“: “This is the biggest blow Norris can land: an uncontested victory from pole position at the Singapore GP, unchallenged and more than 20 seconds ahead of Verstappen. But Max will hardly have felt it. The Briton lost just seven points to the champion in his most dominant weekend, and on the track that, on paper, could offer the most surprises and the most chaos.”

“Sports World”: “Max Verstappen had one of those days in Singapore that can either give you the title or give your rivals a boost. The Dutchman was able to maximise his result and minimise his losses, which seemed enormous before the weekend began, on a track that doesn’t suit his car at all. The champion did a great job and remains the clear leader of the 2024 F1 World Championship after the Singapore GP, with a good cushion over Lando Norris.”

„The Straits Times“: “McLaren has won in Singapore for the first time since 2009: Lando Norris won the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix on September 22. The papaya-clad McLaren driver converted his pole position into a victory and celebrated the British team’s first win in Singapore in over ten years.”

“The Team”: “For the first time since Singapore was added to the racing calendar in 2008, the safety car remained in the garage. It would have been nice to spice up the race, as there were few overtaking maneuvers. However, the walls are never far away on the Marina Bay track and there was some friction.”

“The Parisian”: “Third win of the season in Formula 1 and Lando Norris is getting ever closer to Max Verstappen. After the Singapore Grand Prix, the British driver has made up seven points and is still in the race for the world championship title with six races still to go. The British driver could have taken the point for the fastest lap, but Daniel Ricciardo snatched the point away from him in the final corners.”

“The Republic”: “The orange spaceship also dominates the darkness and romps around Singapore Bay without rival. Lando Norris, who takes his third victory of the season and of his career, becomes his own opponent and flirts with the track walls several times.”

“Gazzetta dello Sport”: “Mission accomplished, but with a bit of a thrill. Lando Norris dominated and won the Singapore GP, which he should not have missed. He couldn’t because it was one of the last chances to make up points on Max Verstappen in the overall standings.”

“Tuttosport”: “Norris is still 52 (points) behind Verstappen! After Singapore, the McLaren Brit is in a good position in the fight for the title.”
