Yesterday’s announcement and penalty by the FIA did not go unnoticed by Max Verstappen, he refused to speak at an official press conference today.
Max Verstappen gave one-word answers at the official FIA press conference after qualifying.
As you know, the world champion was sent to community service yesterday because, according to the FIA, he used inappropriate language during a press conference on Thursday, but he did nothing against Kevin Magnussen, who used a much harsher tone in another interview.
Verstappen responded to this by saying that according to them he can only swear at the official press conference, it is allowed elsewhere, so he should not be asked much at this event – and the- today he stuck to that.
At the press conference with the participation of Formula.hu, he said that he did not want to talk anymore because he would be punished and ordered to work an extra day at the end, he answered one of the “we’d rather talk about this somewhere else” questions, and overall he was unwilling to say more than a word
“A lot,” he replied when asked what had been changed in the car compared to yesterday.
“Could you swear?” was the question.
“No, because you might be punished, it’s best not to say more than that.”
“Are you confident with racetracks?” came the question. “Maybe,” was the reply.
“How much of a leap into the unknown is the race after yesterday’s setbacks?” “Not sure,” came the reply.
Regarding the strategy, he said: “We’ll see tomorrow.”
After that he already answered
However, after boycotting the press conference, Verstappen answered all the questions from the journalist while walking towards the Red Bull host, thus showing how tired the it is with the whole situation.
Both Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton have backed him on the matter, saying they think the Dutchman’s penalty is a joke and hope he doesn’t have to serve at the the end In the aforementioned “after” conversation, Verstappen also said that it means a lot to him that his colleagues stood by him.
“Well, I think what happened is ridiculous, so why should I give full answers? Because now they want to set a precedent. People have been given warnings or small fines in the past. Now they wanted to make an even bigger example of me, I think, which is actually a little strange to me. I didn’t swear at anyone, I said something to my car (it is indicated that “b*va” – ed.), and that’s it. But I’m not angry with the stewards, we had a good chat, they just have to follow the rules. It’s difficult for them too,” said the Dutchman as he walked.
Asked if he thought he would face the stewards again because of his behavior now, Verstappen said: “I’ve answered the questions. You have to answer. I didn’t do anything strange.”
