Max Verstappen (2./3.)
The reigning world champion leads Leclerc by a comfortable 38 points in the overall championship standings. So far, however, it looks like the Paul Ricard circuit will suit Ferrari more than Red Bull and there is a chance that Verstappen may not have to extend his lead this weekend.
“I would say that the second training session was a bit more difficult for us than the first one. We could not find the optimal balance of the car. We will look at it overnight and of course try to speed it up. I think we’re better in the racing simulations, but the fact is that the tires heat up quickly here, so it’s hard to say.
The circuit here does nothing for the tires. I think we would all appreciate more laps to better understand the specifics here,” said Verstappen.
Sergio Perez (6./10.)
The Mexican competitor was not fast enough for his colleague in France on Friday. He lost over a second and a half on the first Sainz in the afternoon.
“Due to technical problems, we were delayed a bit. But it was nothing serious. I don’t feel very good in the car at the moment. We have things to study.
We didn’t do much on the soft compound. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow and I will be in the game in qualifying and in the race,” hopes Pérez.
