Verstapens overtakes both Mercedes pilots / Day on the Silverstone track

Verstapen (Red Bull) completed the lap in one minute and 29,465 seconds. He overtook second-place winner Hamilton by 11,326 seconds, but Botass lost 19,231 seconds to the winner.

Charles Blair (“Ferrari”) finished another ten seconds behind Botas, but he was lost by about ten seconds to Verstapen teammate Alexander Albon, while Lens Strols (“Racing Point”) finished in sixth position.

Meanwhile, Niko Hilkenberg (Racing Point) won his first and probably the last Grand Prix this season, replacing Covid-19’s previously infected Serhio Peres in both stages.

Hilkenberg finished seventh on Sunday.

The “Mercedes” team was prevented from struggling with victory by tires. Verstapen also noted that he did not expect such a turn.

“I didn’t expect such a result, but my team quickly realized that the right choice had been made with the tires. I had no problems with the tires, a great day for the whole team,” the Dutchman said after the success.

This did not prevent Hamilton from repeating the F-1 record. Namely, the British entered the podium on the podium on Sunday for the 155th time. Previously, only the legendary Michael Schumacher was able to do this. It is significant that Hamilton has been at least one point in one of the stages of the “Grand Prix” for the 38th time in a row.

This was also the first time in the last seven stages that a pilot who did not win a “pole position” was crowned the winner.

At the beginning of the day, Botass was the fastest in the qualifying session, but Hamilton finished behind him. Hilkenberg and Verstapen were in the second starting line, followed by Daniel Rikjardo (“Renault”) and Strols.

Hamilton leads the championship with 107 points, Verstapens has saved 30 less, but Botass is following with 73 points. In the fourth position with 45 points is Clecker, 38 points for Noris, but two less for Albon.

A record number of races were planned this season (22), but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organizers are now approving 13 stages.

Last season, Hamilton was crowned world champion, triumphing for the sixth time in his career and for the third time in a row.
