People remember Veronika Kánská (56) as Blažena from the cult trilogy Sun, Hay. She played her role at just 17 years old and it was her first acting experience ever. After finishing the summer comedies, she flashed on the screens a few more times, but her promising career ended soon after. What made her leave film and what is she doing today?
Veronika Kánská has wanted to become an actress since childhood, which is why she actively participated in various auditions. One of them was an audition for a role in one of Zdeňko Troška’s films – A Shoe named Melichar, where she tried to get the role of a prostitute from Václavák. Although she didn’t get the role, she charmed the director so much that two years later he cast her in the role of Blažena in the first part of the trilogy Sun, Hay, Strawberries (1983). She repeated this role in 1989 in the sequel to the film Sun, Hay and a Few Faces and lastly in 1991 in the last installment of Sun, Hay, Erotica.
Over the years, she also appeared in the psychological drama Prodlužený čas (1984) and then in the popular sequel to the musical comedy Disco Story (1991). In the same year, she performed in the well-known music video of the singer Michal David. After a longer period, she subsequently appeared in the drama Canada Night (2008), thus concluding her career.
Veronika Kánská tried twice unsuccessfully to get into the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU). She then joined the Růžičk family and performed in theater performances throughout the Czech Republic. After acting, she decided to devote herself fully to her family and worked in various fields – from a travel agency to selling ice cream. She eventually found employment as a librarian in Cologne, where she moved to join her partner. She is very satisfied with her life and work and appreciates the peace she got after leaving show business. She is not planning an acting career now, she hasn’t started missing it and she is not interested in fame. He currently lives in the village of Končice together with his family. He has a daughter Anna-Maria and a son Adam.
On the occasion of Zdeňko Troška’s 70th birthday, she did not want to talk about the popular trilogy on the Tobogán radio broadcast, and unfortunately she could not attend the celebration. However, the director talked about her work not only in Tobogan, but also in the show Face To Face. He mentioned her casting in A Shoe Called Melichar and her later performance in Sun, Hay. He definitely does not regret his choice of Veronika Kánská for the role of Blažena, and he stands by his decision.
