Veronica – the game was almost ready

A fan-made remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica on the Unity engine was canceled shortly before release. The portal The Gamer reports it with reference to the authors of the project.

Development was halted at the request of Capcom, who hold the rights to the franchise. The writers of the remake claimed that the reason for this was the use of the name Resident Evil and its characters, however, some other fan works escaped the studio’s claims. At the same time, the former producer of the franchise declaredthat Capcom will not release a remake of Code: Veronica.

The original Resident Evil Code: Veronica was released in 2000 on the Dreamcast and later received improvements on the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube. In 2011, a remaster was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Metacritic score of the title offers 94 out of 100 from critics and 8.9 out of 10 from users. The fan-made Unity remake was supposed to get a third-person camera and be released free per chapter.
