Alone, the district of Valmeux (Vernon, Eure) account 5,000 inhabitants. It is almost as much as the city of Saint-Marcel. However, the medical coverage is very different, as underlined by Nellie Colombe, deputy mayor of Saint-Marcel and elected in charge of health for Seine Normandie agglomeration:
“We have doctors, several pharmacists and specialists. In Valmeux, there is only one pharmacist and that’s it! “
Gynecology, vaccination and prevention
For almost three weeks, a Health space was therefore inaugurated in the district. Hotlines will be provided for reminders of vaccination, for some health check-ups complete, for follow-ups in gynecology and a cabinet is ready for consultations of any type, depending on availability.
L’association PlaNETh Patient also has two rooms for swimming prevention of chronic diseases like diabetes or obesity. “Meetings in small groups are planned when the health situation permits”, assures the elected official.
More accessible care
Consultations are, for the most part, carried out by doctors and nurses of the’hospital : “It allows a bond of trust to be established by being present on site and then, if necessary, accompanying patients to the hospital,” explains Nellie Colombe.
The elected official maintains that it is important to encourage the inhabitants of Valmeux to get out of the neighborhood but have a proximity remains the best solution to ensure direct access to care :
“When a mother is not transported, getting to the city center with a stroller or small children, for example, can be complicated.”
L’Health space will welcome everyone, will be free including for people who do not have vital card. They can be referred to the PASS (permanent access to health care), in front of emergencies, to carry out administrative procedures.
Close to high school students
Located near the Georges-Dumézil high school, the center will be able to welcome students, particularly young girls for whom the first visits to the gynecologist may be taboo.
“The nurses at the school are delighted with this project. They see a real need. The midwife can give advice on contraception or any other request. “
And the versatile aspect of the center ensures a certain confidentiality: nobody knows which practitioner the patient comes to see. This type of multipurpose house is also popular with medical students:
“We often meet interns and almost all of them see themselves working in this kind of space. They don’t want to work alone. “
