Verizon Restore Service After Reports of Widespread Outage in NY and NJ – NBC New York (47)

Verizon reported Friday that the “intermittent issue” that prevented some cell phone customers from making or receiving phone calls in our area has been fixed.

“Our network teams have identified and rectified the issue, and all services have been restored,” a company spokesperson said in a statement around 3 p.m.

Dozens of customers in New York and New Jersey reported outages on Friday. Verizon did not comment on a possible cause for the earlier outage, but said it was limited to cell phone calls.

“Wireless is experiencing a major cellular outage reportedly impacting East Coast mobile calls. Text messages seem to be working, but there are issues making/receiving calls,” New York City Councilman Justin Brannan wrote on Twitter.

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden, whose office operates the emergency communications center for this New Jersey county, said residents can also text 911.
