The Cardinal of Spain at the Teatro Comunale. This latest piece by Henry de Montherlant was presented this Saturday by Galas Charles Baret in Verdun. Julien Bertheau as Cardinal and Louise Conte as Jeanne-la-folle, both members of the Comédie-Française, were surrounded by a very talented cast. Triumphant over a difficult text, the actors gave the audience a show full of emotion. The staging provided by Julien Bertheau was accompanied by the brilliant sets and costumes by Roger Pellerin.
Death of Mr. Panau, former mayor of Verdun. Born in 1881 in Verdun, where his parents ran a lingerie factory, René Panau was a student at the Buvignier college and then at the business school in Nancy. Mobilized as a reserve lieutenant during the Great War, he was promoted to captain in 1915 and assigned to the 351st Infantry Regiment. Having entered the city council in 1920, he succeeded Victor Schleiter in 1933 after his sudden death in the Lagny disaster. President or member of numerous associations such as the Commission for the Visitor Book of the Unknown Soldier, he died at the age of 91. A large congregation attended his funeral, celebrated in the cathedral basilica.
