Verdict: Verivox has to point out a limited selection of providers

The comparison portal Verivox has probably not played with open cards. In the case that ended up in court, it is specifically about the comparison of private liability insurers.

Half of all providers were missing

Attorney Thomas Kinschewski explains:

Verivox offers comparisons for everything: electricity, cell phone, DSL and, among other things, private liability insurance. However, they only listed those companies with which Verivox has agreed a finder’s fee.

In the comparison, almost half of all providers were missing, including many large insurers such as Allianz, Huk-Coburg and Continentale. The Higher Regional Court of Karlsruhe (OLG) decided: This was unfair competition and a deception of the consumer. With that there was a lawsuit of the Federal association of consumers instead of.

The OLG says: Okay, you are not obliged to have all insurance policies shown here. But if you actually only list those who are on your payroll, then you have to put it that way.

Users of the site could not clearly see the lack of insurers. The note was hidden behind two links. The last word has not yet been spoken. Because of its fundamental importance, a revision to the BGH was approved.

I am very sure that the BGH will wave the thing through. And once he has said that, all comparison portals have to adhere to it.
