Verdict Delayed: Pastor and Former Head of GdG Hückelhoven Appeals Sentence

In the worst case, several months will pass before the verdict against the pastor and former head of the GdG Hückehoven can become final. Until then, Georg K. remains at large.

The former head of the GdG Hückelhoven, Pastor Georg K., is to go to prison for two years and six months. Judge Carsten Conrad determined this last week in his judgment at the district court in Mönchengladbach. He follows a previous agreement between the prosecutor and the defense. Nevertheless, Georg K. is now appealing through his lawyer and thus skipping the appeal.

The case is now not being heard at the district court in Mönchengladbach, but is being referred directly to the higher regional court in Düsseldorf. This is no longer about testimonies or their credibility, but about whether there may have been procedural errors in the previous proceedings and the verdict should not have been made that way. Such an approach is very unusual, especially since the parties involved in the trial had agreed on a sentence in advance and the judge also followed this agreement.

Since the arrest warrant against Georg K. has been lifted – he only has to report to the responsible police station twice a week – the former GdG head remains at large for the time being. It may be months before the Higher Regional Court can hear the case.
