Debut away in Genoa, against Basket Pegli, for PFV on the first day of the eastern qualifying group, in which they were defeated 49-31, by the main candidate for the final victory.
Very aggressive defense
The Ligurians were able to deploy a very aggressive defense from the first minutes of the game, with a lot of pressure, so as to make it very difficult for the guests to get to the basket.
The score of the first quarter – 21-8 – immediately directed the match, even if PFV reacted thereafter (6-8 the second period, ending at 27-16) keeping in line with their opponents in the subsequent quarters, but without ever managing to really get back into the game.
In the second half the teams were still fighting on equal terms, both scoring rather little, making it 38-24 in the 30th minute. Until the final of +18 for the home team, which fully deserved the victory, even if it achieved it to a lesser extent than expected, perhaps also thanks to PFV.

At the end of the match, coach Davide Simone, despite taking note of the strong difficulties revealed in the attacking phase by his team in this match, declared that “the application and the desire to try were certainly not lacking, reaching in some moments to equalize the same great intensity as the opposing team and it was seen in defense where the girls fought for every ball. From Tuesday we will start working again to improve, and who knows, we might already be able to see something from the next match, in two weeks (the next one is rest – ed.) again away on Ligurian soil in Nervi”.
A happy note for PFV was the presence on the pitch of Carol Ansu, absent for over a year, with a good performance: 12 points, 6/11 shooting, 11 rebounds and 18 rating. It’s practically a major new purchase.
