Veracruz Poet Jorge Ramón Juárez Muñoz’s Library Donated to the Universidad Veracruzana

The collection of approximately two thousand five hundred books from the personal library of the Veracruz poet Jorge Ramón Juárez Muñoz was donated yesterday to the Universidad Veracruzana.

In the Blue Room of the Humanities Unit, Juan Gonzalo Juárez Diego, son of the poet, made the formal delivery to the director of the Academic Area of ​​Humanities, Yolanda González Moloha.

How was the delivery of the library?

Before an auditorium full of students from the Faculty of Spanish Letters, university authorities and the family of the poet Jorge Ramón Juárez, the symbolic delivery of the collection that will remain in the USBI-Xalapa Library and Information Services Unit (USBI) to be enjoyed and consulted by university students and the general public.

The university dean Ángel José Fernández, researcher at the Institute of Linguistic and Literary Research of the UV, highlighted that in his work by Jorge Ramón Juárez Muñoz, he looked for classical forms, that he wrote songs, romances and sonnets and that he recovered many themes from tradition. popular Mexican and especially Veracruz.

He wrote stories and dramas, he was a sonnetist and romance writer, his poetry describes the various points of Veracruz geography.

Born in the port of Veracruz and although he spent his academic life in Mexico City, he always remembered his town and always kept in mind the regional environment and particularly his town.

He expressed that with this donation the memory of his town is vindicated and although his collection was not very large, his library is large and immensely rich.

After handing over his parents’ collection of books and four oil paintings, Juan Gonzalo Juárez Diego, the poet’s son, emotionally recalled his father’s career and the paths taken to bring his personal library to the Veracruzana University.

He was grateful to the UV for giving a special place in the USBI to his father’s collection of texts.

For her part, the academic secretary of the Humanities Area, Yolanda González Moloha, highlighted the cultural importance of the UV receiving the donation of the collection of texts by the Veracruz poet Jorge Juárez Muñoz. She thanked the family for handing over this important collection “because parting with such a valuable library speaks of the great generosity they have with our House of Studies.”

He committed to preserving and disseminating this work and his library that university students can now enjoy.

For his part, the director of the Faculty of Spanish Letters, Juan Pablo Rojas Texon, also thanked the UV for the donation of the important literary collection and highlighted how important books are in the lives of human beings. The general director of UV Libraries, Ana María Salazar Vázquez, was also present at the ceremony.

As a final part of the ceremony, students from the Faculty of Spanish Letters read several of Jorge Ramón Juárez Muñoz’s poems to those present.
