Atoyac, See. April 12. (SPI).- Veracruz is the main state with the greatest national impact due to the decrease in sugarcane milling, warned the state leader of the National Confederation of Rural Owners (CNPR), Ángel Gómez Tapia.
The entity, with 18 mills operating, has so far processed 15 million 427 thousand tons of green rod, however, compared to the past cycle, there is a smaller difference of 46.9 percent, which represents one million 94 thousand 238 tons.
“There are two affected states, Veracruz and in second is San Luis Potosí; their numbers yield 40.3 percent less ground cane. Complicated days will come for producers,” warned the leader.
He explained that among the main causes of low yield in the sugarcane field are extreme drought and insufficient and inadequate fertilization.
“The situation of sugarcane producers is difficult due to the low production of cane, which will affect the income of producers by up to 10,000 pesos less per hectare,” he added.
Without a doubt, he pointed out, this is a hard blow to the national sugar production since it will be difficult to reach the figures expected at the beginning of the 2022-2023 harvest.
“At the national level, 591,023 hectares have been harvested, with a field yield of 63.8 tons of cane, that average represents an alarming decrease of less than 10 tons of cane. A drop of minus 13.7 percent with the previous one, ”he pointed out.
