The German Further Education Day will take place nationwide on September 26, 2023. ver.di NRW is also there. With an action in front of the Ruhr Further Education Congress in the Dortmunder U, the union is calling on employers and politicians for a nationwide collective agreement for further vocational training.
“We will no longer accept the precarious working conditions,” says Uwe Meyeringh, deputy head of the department for social services, health, education and science in North Rhine-Westphalia. “There must be an end to employers passing on the price war between providers to the employees.” Uncertain and poorly paid employment, temporary project work and low wages would neither do justice to the employees nor to the social importance of education. Further vocational training has long been suffering from the shortage of skilled workers.
That is why ver.di is committed to ensuring that public contracts are only awarded to employers bound by collective agreements. “A nationwide industry collective agreement for further vocational training is overdue,” said Meyeringh. Politicians have a responsibility to improve conditions for the entire industry. The union is calling for a change in the political and financial framework at the federal and state levels. The federal government’s planned cuts in vocational training are heading in completely the wrong direction and must be prevented.
The German Further Education Day traditionally takes place on September 26th. This day highlights the important role of education and further training in our society. On the occasion of the 2nd Ruhr Further Education Congress, ver.di is drawing attention to the special key function of employees in further vocational training.
