Venus and Mars Conjunction with Moon: A Spectacular Night Sky Phenomenon on the Summer Solstice

Two bright spots in the sky juxtaposed with the Moon

The astronomical summer will bring us many changes in the night sky. For some time, white nights will prevail in our country, so we will be able to enjoy longer days. This is also a good time to observe the sky because tonight, weather permitting, we will be able to admire two bright points in conjunction with the Moon.

Two bright points in the sky, one brighter and more distinct than the other, are Venus and Mars. Venus will be the brightest, and a little above will be visible smaller Mars. The two will be joined by a crescent moon. Although the distance between them is actually colossal, in the sky they will be visible close to each other. However, this approximation is only apparent, everything depends on our perspective.

The summer solstice falls on June 21 this year at exactly 4:58 pm. From now on, we will be able to enjoy the full summer. During this phenomenon, we are dealing with the longest day of the year and the shortest night. It was during the summer solstice that all the magical ceremonies related to Midsummer Night celebrations took place.

There will also be magical phenomena in the sky that will be visible after sunset, weather permitting. The moon will be only 12 percent visible tonight, but that won’t stop you from seeing it. Right next to our satellite, a very bright spot, Venus, will be visible above the northwestern horizon, and slightly above, a slightly smaller spot, Mars.

What’s more, after the summer solstice, we will be able to observe more and more distinct silvery clouds. We recently wrote a bit more about silvery clouds in Geekweek.

The brightness of both planets should be significant enough to observe them with the naked eye, unless our sky is covered with clouds. What’s more, it will be possible to capture the phenomenon with an ordinary smartphone.

In order to take a clear photo of both planets with a phone, it is important to capture a fragment of the landscape in the photo; otherwise, the camera may have trouble focusing. If we are more advanced smartphone users, it is worth playing with the settings available in the camera application. However, do not overdo the zoom as the effect may be counterproductive.

So, don’t miss the opportunity to witness this celestial spectacle tonight. Grab your smartphone and head outside to observe and capture the beautiful conjunction of Venus, Mars, and the Moon in the night sky.

In addition to Venus and Mars, another bright spot in the sky near the Moon during this time will be the bright star Regulus in the constellation Leo the Lion. This star will add to the enchanting view of the night sky.

To fully appreciate this celestial event, it is important to find a location with clear weather and minimal light pollution. The early evening hours will be the best time to observe this conjunction, as the sky will still be dark enough for the planets and star to shine brightly.

Whether you are an astronomy enthusiast or simply enjoy gazing at the night sky, this conjunction of the Moon, Venus, Mars, and Regulus is sure to capture your attention. So make sure to mark your calendars and take the opportunity to witness this remarkable sight in the sky.
