In both games of the main tournament of this season, Ventspils won. First, they won away in overtime with 88:83, but at home they defeated their opponents with 92:63.

“Ogre” lost 82:90 (23:25, 19:22, 21:20, 19:23) to the Riga-based Ukrainian club “Prometey” of Slobojansk, losing the series 0-2.

Kristaps Dārgais scored 19 points, 13 rebounds and six assists for the home team, Matīss Kulačkovskis scored 17 points, and Mats Juciks scored 12 points.

For the guests, six basketball players scored at least ten points, with Ondrzej Balvin becoming the top scorer with 16 points and eight rebounds. Isuf Sanon scored 14 points, and David Kennedy and Ronald March each had 13 points, collecting six and five rebounds, respectively.

In the first quarter, the home team was more often in the lead, gaining the biggest advantage 11:7 after Dărgă’s three-point play.

In the second quarter, “Prometey” took over the lead, and “Ogrei” failed to take the lead again, although a tie was reached several times. The last time it happened was in the middle of the second quarter after Kulačkovski’s two-point shot (32:32).

In the first match of the series, “Prometey” celebrated a victory at home with 97:82.

“Prometey” took second place in the main tournament with 26 wins in 30 games, while “Ogre” won 17 wins and ranked seventh.

This season, in November, “Ogre” already made one surprise for the Ukrainian club, winning 85:76 away from home. The guests also won the second game, “Prometey” getting revenge with 91:68.

On Monday, the place in the semi-finals was secured by “VEF Rīga”, which beat “Rīgas Zeļlius” 2-0 in the quarter-finals, while “Kalev”/”Cramo” of Tallinn defeated “Parnu Sadam” 2-0, also entering the semi-finals.

In addition to the Riga-based Ukrainian team Slobojanskas “Prometey” in the LIBL this season, “VEF Rīga”, “Ventspils”, “Liepāja”, “Ogre”, “University of Latvia”, “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzemes Augstskola” and “Rīgas Zeļļi” are competing. Estonia is represented in LIBL by Tallinn “Kalev”/”Cramo”, “University of Tartu”/”Maks & Moorits”, “Parnu Sadam”, “Viimsi”, Rapla “Avis Utilitas”, Tallinn “TalTech”/”Optibet”, “Keila” /”Coolbet” and Tallinn’s “Kalev”/”Snabb”.

In the main tournament, the teams competed in a two-round tournament, after which the best eight got the right to participate in the playoffs. In the quarter-finals and semi-finals, the winners are determined in a best-of-two series, but in the final, one match will be played on the court of the team that was in the highest place in the main tournament.

The best men’s basketball clubs of Latvia and Estonia played in the joint championship for the first time in the 2019 season, when 15 teams participated in the competition. “Ventspils” basketball players became the first winners of the league in the final four tournament.

Last season, in the finals of the “Final 4” tournament, the basketball players of Slobojanska “Prometey” became the champions.
