‘Venom’: Where Did He Come From and Who Is Spider-Man’s Archenemy?

Original interspecies symbiosis
An ambitious investigative journalist, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), is obsessed with finding the truth. When he exposes the unethical activities of The Life Foundation, a company that conducts research on a mysterious extraterrestrial life form, he has to pay a high price. He loses the job that was the meaning of his life. On top of that, his fiancée Anne (Michelle Williams) leaves him because he abused her trust. He begins to sink to the bottom when, driven by remorse, the closest associate of Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), the president of a heartless bioengineering corporation, reveals to the journalist a shocking truth that prompts him to illegally enter The Life Foundation laboratory.

There he is confronted by a cosmic parasite who makes Eddie his host. It takes some time before they get to know each other, but eventually they discover that the benefit of this interspecies symbiosis is mutual and thanks to it they can more effectively pursue their goals. And even common goals, such as unmasking and thwarting Carlton Drake’s evil plan…

The New Face of Venom
The titular Venom is the legendary adversary of Spider-Man from the Marvel comic book series. He first appeared on the big screen in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3” (Venom was played by Topher Grace at the time). There, however, he was a rather one-dimensional villain – simply the main character’s enemy. Thanks to a separate film about himself, Venom gains depth. It turns out that the seemingly wild and bloodthirsty monster is actually sensitive and tender, and has the good of others at heart.

Interestingly, in the genesis of the horror character and in the plot with a crime-thriller tinge (Venom as the last righteous), the creators of “Venom” saw comedy potential. In addition to spectacular fight scenes and bombastic special effects, the film also sparkles with humor, which adds lightness to the entire production. And makes it a must-see not only for fans of the Marvel Universe.
