In order to continue the growth of the international parcel delivery company Venipak in Latvia and in the Baltics in general, the company will invest 1.5 million euros in the automation of the Lithuanian warehouse.
This year, the company also plans to make additional investments in a new Fulfillment center near Warsaw, Poland. It will be a solution for Baltic e-commerce companies that deliver their goods across Europe.
The data show that, compared to 2019, the occupancy rate of European logistics facilities increased by 16% last year. In the US and Asia by 21% and 32% respectively. At the same time, the volume of vacant warehouses in Europe has decreased to a record low level – about 5% (The Economist).
There is also a growing demand for warehouse space in the Baltic States, but the current supply is unable to meet it. Building new warehouses takes time and financial resources, which is not the best solution for smaller and fast-growing traders.
“Over the last two years, online shopping and, consequently, the volume of goods has grown faster than expected. According to our calculations, the development of e-commerce and delivery service is developing 5 years faster than it would have happened under normal conditions. There is already not enough space in Europe for the amount of goods that would actually be needed, ”explains Justas Šablinskas, the head of Venipak.
In 2020, Venipak delivered 45% more parcels to Latvian customers. In the first quarter of 2021 – by 54% more than in the same period last year. At conventional sorting terminals, employees handle more than 40,000 parcels a day, delivered by couriers throughout the region. During the boom in e-commerce, the need for a universal service that covers the entire process – from warehousing to delivery – will only increase. Therefore, the transition to a modern full-service warehouse is the logical next step.
Parcel delivery company Venipak, founded in 2004, offers parcel logistics solutions for companies and individuals in the Baltic States, Poland, Germany, the USA and China. Almost 600 parcel delivery points are available to customers in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. In the coming years, Venipak plans to develop a network of almost 2,000 postal terminals and parcel collection points and become one of the largest parcel delivery networks in the Baltics.
