Venice Art Biennale 2024: Latin American Artists Take Center Stage with ‘Stranieri Ovunque’ Exhibition

Rome, Feb 2 (EFE).- The Venice Art Biennale, which will open on April 20 and can be visited until November 24, will have a significant Latin American presence of more than one hundred artists, representing more than a third of the participants of the 60th edition of this important artistic event.

‘Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere’ is the title of an exhibition that will bring together 114 authors from Latin America and the Caribbean and which is also commissioned for the first time by a representative from South America, the Brazilian Adriano Pedrosa.

“The expression ‘Stranieri Ovunque’ has several meanings. Firstly, wherever you go and wherever you are you will always find foreigners (…) and secondly, no matter where you are, you are always truly a foreigner,” he explained Pedrosa in a statement.

Among the participants, the presence of the Argentine artist La Chola Mendoza stands out, who recently received the artist of the year 2023 award from Deutsche Bank (Germany) and who is part of the large Argentine presence at the event, with up to 16 participants.

In addition, the Italian-Brazilian sculptor and painter Anna Maria Maiolino will receive, together with the Turkish Nil Yater, the lifetime achievement award in this edition of the Biennial, where ‘queer’, ‘outsider’ artists – outside the margins of the world – will also have their space. of art- and ‘folk’ -popular-.

Indigenous art will also have an important role in this international exhibition with a monumental mural by the Makhu collective from Brazil, which will welcome visitors on the main façade of the Central Pavilion.

Divided into two sections, ‘Contemporary Core’ and ‘Historical Core’, this exhibition will converge contemporary art, works from the 20th century and a series of pieces from the Claire Fontaine group, with neon sculptures of different colors that translate the word into several languages. ‘foreigners everywhere’.
