Venice 2020: after Joker, the Golden Lion for a future Marvel director – teller report

After Roma in 2018 and Joker in 2019, the highest distinction of the Venice Film Festival, the Golden Lion, goes to the American film Nomadland by Chloé Zhao, with Frances McDormand in the main role. We follow a sexagenarian, who after losing everything during the Great Recession, embarks on a journey through the American West, living like a modern-day nomad … The film will be released in France on December 30. Chloe Zhao has a busy news since she will also soon unveil another feature film, the blockbuster Marvel Eternals, dated February 10, 2021 in France.

The festival also recognized the work of filmmakers such as Michel Franco (Nuevo Orden) or Kiyoshi Kurosawa (The sacrificed lovers), and was marked, in particular, out of competition by the presentation of Mandibules, the new Quentin Dupieux, who received an excellent critical reception.

Recall that the 77th Venice Film Festival, which took place from September 2 to 12, had to be organized under special sanitary conditions, and was one of the very first film festivals, with Angoulême and Deauville, to be able to take place despite this pandemic context.
