Venezuela’s Supreme Court names Maduro as the winner – 2024-08-25 16:18:40

CARACAS (VENEZUELA), 08/17/2024.- Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro greets supporters at a demonstration in favor of his government, this Saturday in Caracas (Venezuela). Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said that more than a hundred mobilizations in favor of Chavismo were registered around the world this Saturday, which – he assured – were added to the one that took place in Caracas and other cities in the Caribbean country, in support of his questioned re-election in the elections of July 28. He Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) of Venezuelacontrolled by magistrates close to Chavez, reaffirmed this Thursday the official results of the elections of July 28, which gave victory to Nicolas Madurowhich has been pointed out as fraudulent inside and outside the country.

“This Electoral Chamber validates the results of the presidential election of 28 issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE)”said the president of the TSJ, the Chavista, before high-ranking State authorities and diplomatic representatives Caryslia Rodriguezwho led the judicial appraisal of the result.

The ruling, which “unequivocally and unrestrictively” concludes the review of the elections, comes 22 days after Maduro himself requested this process, through an appeal for protection that was never heard and through which the 10 former presidential candidates were summoned to the TSJ.

Rodríguez explained that he based his decision on a report prepared by “highly qualified and suitable” national and international experts, whose identities are unknown, as well as details of the entire validation process, which was carried out without the presence of representatives of the majority opposition, which denounces electoral fraud.

Before the TSJ issued its ruling, the standard-bearer of the largest opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutiawarned that the judicial decision “will only aggravate the crisis” that the country is experiencing.

«Gentlemen of the TSJ: No ruling will replace popular sovereignty. The country and the world know of your partiality and, therefore, your inability to resolve the conflict; your decision will only aggravate the crisis»González Urrutia expressed through X, where he predicted that the high court would favor the Government, contrary to what Maduro reiterated, who assured that the institution is “solid.”

González Urrutia said he is confident that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) will “enforce” the results of the elections that are underway in the South American country. The PUD maintains that its candidate won the presidential election by a wide margin and published “83.5% of the electoral records” to reinforce its claim, which has been supported by several countries and national and international organizations.

However, the CNE declared Maduro the winner without publishing the disaggregated results, a point that was included in the schedule of the contest, which has been demanded by a large part of the international community. EFE (I)
