Venezuela’s International Progressive Theater Festival FITP2023: More Countries and Activities Than Ever Before

After a month of call, it closed on April 27, a total of 277 works were presented in this new edition, to be held from June 8 to 18, with the presence of more than a dozen countries.

The Venezuelan Minister for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, announced that this year 97 more projects were received than in the 2022 edition.

The event press reported that Fitp2023 will double the programming in the training area with 112 activities, including workshops, forums, talks, exhibitions and film screenings.

These, he said, will address various approaches to human reality such as freedom, critical thinking, protection of planet Earth, gender identity, peace and self-determination of peoples.

The festival of the tables foresees the realization of 47 activities in 22 parishes of Caracas, in addition, the axis of La Candelaria will be added with the execution of around 30 special events and a street performance.

In the same way, it will be extended to the 23 states of the country with the projection of 46 functions in the communes, a figure that will continue to grow during the month and is expected to exceed one hundred presentations in the national territory, according to the authorities.

The second edition of the Festival will have Mexico as the honored country and nations such as Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Italy, Chile, Portugal, Peru, Ecuador, Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Russia and Burkina Faso have already formed their participation.

In an exclusive interview days ago, the general director of the National Theater Company and member of the organizing committee of the event, Carlos Arroyo, told Prensa Latina that during the 10 days of the event there will be a lot of theatrical activity throughout the country.

He explained that the International Progressive Theater Festival emerged last year at the initiative of President Nicolás Maduro, covered only 10 states, and in 2023 it will have the particularity of extending to the entire national territory where the public will be able to enjoy “very interesting” proposals with prominent issues facing the world today.
